Collecting Moments

Jars of sand

One of the customers I visited today was an elderly couple. I asked what was on the shelf in their bathroom. They explained that it was sand they had collected from all the places they had traveled together over 35 years.

They spoke enthusiastically about the places they had visited and their upcoming trip. It was truly wonderful to witness their joy.

Whether we collect sand, photos, or blog posts, there’s something beautiful and meaningful about it. A sense of existence and experience, a symbol of growth and progress. The past and present intertwined in a shared sense of being.

We all collect something, even if we don’t think in those terms. Someone collects stamps, while another collects the number of dives they’ve taken. Same same, but different — a sense of comfort, a feeling of being and belonging. A life.
