My latest Bear theme: Kodiak
Kodiak is a brand-new theme for Bear Blog. It combines many of the things I’ve learned from making other themes, add-ons, and more.
The idea to name it Kodiak, the world’s largest brown bear, has more to it than just being bear-related. It’s also the topic of the first book I remember ever having read as a kid: Monarch of Deadman Bay: The Life and Death of a Kodiak Bear by Roger A. Caras.
So in a way, this theme connects my latest project with the first book I ever read.
Of all the themes I’ve made, this is the one I’m most proud of. But I guess that’s the way it always is, no matter if you’re creating a book, song, or theme. Why else would you keep doing it?
The idea behind Kodiak is to honor what we’ve all come to love about Bear, while also adding a bit of personality. It’s more spacious and a bit easier on the eyes compared to the default theme. It also comes with a set of handy, optional extras:
- Header avatar
- Photo styles and galleries
- Photo lightbox (requires script)
- Blog archive (requires script)
- Post navigation
And much more. I have a lot of other ideas too, but I think this is a solid first release.
You can grab the Kodiak theme here, and see all the parts in action in the style guide.
Happy blogging!
