A little bit of magic
Right now I'm in a phase where I want to make my creations small. The theme I'm using is getting tinier and tinier, and so are the scripts and other bits of content on my blog.
I like it. The fewer the options, the greater the imagination. Creativity loves boundaries, as I once wrote.
I also love the opposite. Creating playful themes and add-ons where I go all in, just opening the floodgates and letting it all out. No restrictions whatsoever.
But here's the thing, it comes and goes. My current mini mode may switch to mega tomorrow. It's impossible to predict. It just happens.
I think this phenomenon is one of the most interesting aspects of creativity, but also one of the most difficult.
We're people of habit. We have our hobbies, our food preferences, and a business card that lists our professional skills. Even if some things come and go, it's a pretty static setup.
Creativity, on the other hand, is quite the opposite of static. It's like a river we can't step into twice. Sometimes roaring, sometimes calm, always flowing.
When we allow these parts of life to flow freely, when we find the right balance, what seem like opposites attract.
And that attraction gives birth to a little bit of magic.
