Ok or no way?

I emailed the owner of one of the places I’ll be staying at during my time here in Chiang Mai. He had told me to get back in January to confirm my reservation. I emailed in December instead, taking the opportunity to wish him a happy new year.

I got a reply saying there were no rooms available for those dates.

I would’ve been upset if this were a hotel in Sweden. Not so much when it’s in Thailand. It’s one of those things you kind of have to accept when you’re in Asia, so I let it go.

Quite funny when you think about it. The situation would’ve been exactly the same in both cases. I was promised a room, but didn’t get one.

The reaction, though, very different. Upset vs. shit happens.

Same same, but different.

Would it help me to get upset? Most likely not. The room is gone, and there’s nothing I can do about it, right?

Well, actually, there is.

I can choose acceptance before frustration. The situation stays the same, but how I react to it is up to me. It’s a choice we have in any given situation.

Ok. Or no way.

Same same, but different.
